Announcing the 2022/23 Concert Season
The Niagara Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Bradley Thachuk are thrilled to announce the 2022-2023 Concert Season! This ambitious season reflects on significant issues and showcases amazing Canadian talent in eleven unique concerts across the Masterworks, POPS!and Rock series.
The season begins with Masterworks 1: Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky. This concert opens with the Canadian premiere of an NSO co-commissioned work that honours the life of Harriet Tubman. The show continues with symphonic masterpieces, Stravinsky‘s Firebird Suite and Tchaikovsky‘s Symphony No. 4. The Masterworks series continues with five more concerts, filled with symphonic favourites by Mahler, Brahms, Dvorák, Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky and Mozart. Contemporary Canadian composers also feature throughout the season with works by Jared Miller, Vivian Fung, and Dinuk Wijeratne in a re-programming of Invisible Cities from the 21-22 season.
The 22-23 POPS! series starts off in October with a familiar fanfare, as the NSO performs The Music of John Williams! The NSO’s annual Holiday Pops concert celebrates the festive season with a trip around the world in one night – performing Global Music with the Sultans of String and the Laura Secord Secondary School Chamber Choir. Guest conductor Jeffrey Pollock and NSO principal clarinettist Zoltan Kalman will get you In The Mood for some big band classics in POPS! 3, while the Rock series makes a return with the joint POPS! 4/Rock 2 concert – The Music of Phil Collins and Genesis!
Speaking of Rock – this series begins with Symphonically Hip, a symphonic tribute to Canadian rock legends the Tragically Hip. Led by Maestro Thachuk and featuring ‘Hip Evangelists’, The Strictly Hip, this tribute was an instant sellout in 2020. This time we are taking the show on the road to the Avalon Theatre at Fallsview Casino. Tickets to Symphonically Hip are exclusively available through Ticketmaster and cannot be included in Season Ticket Packages.
The NSO is proud to showcase a plethora of amazing guest artists in the 22-23 season: Sara Davis Buechner, piano; Marina Thibeault, viola; Jarred Dunn, piano; TorQ Percussion Quartet; Claire de Sévigné, soprano; and Juliet Dunn, narrator. Maestro Thachuk is also incredibly pleased to share the podium with a pair of exciting guest conductors, rising conducting star Dina Gilbert (Kamloops Symphony) and Jeffrey Pollock (Sinfonia Ancaster).
The Niagara Symphony Orchestra invites you to be a part of the exciting and illuminating 2022-2023 Concert Season, which is filled with orchestral classics, contemporary masterworks, and outstanding guest artists!
